ABOUT US
The Kresge Foundation is a $3.1 billion private, national foundation that seeks to influence the quality of life for future generations by creating access and opportunity in underserved communities, improving the health of low-income people, supporting artistic expression, increasing college achievement, assisting in the revitalization of Detroit, and advancing methods for dealing with global climate change. The foundation works in six program areas: arts and culture, community development, education, the environment, health, and human services. Kresge Arts in Detroit represents one facet of the foundation’s Detroit Program, a comprehensive community-development framework to strengthen the long-term economic, social and cultural fabric of the city and surrounding area. In 2009, the Board of Trustees approved 404 awards totaling $197 million; $167 million was paid out to grantees over the course of the year. For more information, visit www.kresge.org. Kresge Arts in Detroit is a multi-faceted grant making initiative aimed at developing and supporting individual artists, arts and cultural organizations, and arts-infrastructure groups in Wayne, Oakland, and Macomb Counties in metropolitan Detroit. Kresge Arts in Detroit reflects the Foundation's belief that fostering a thriving arts and cultural community, in partnership with other stakeholders, can help spawn creativity, spur innovation, and accelerate revitalization while enriching the lives of Detroit-Area residents. Kresge Arts in Detroit has three facets – the Kresge Artist Fellowships and Kresge Eminent Artist Award administered by the College for Creative Studies, and Kresge Arts Support administered by The Kresge Foundation. Please see Kresge Art Support for more information.
The Kresge Artist Fellowships and the Kresge Eminent Artist Award are administered by the Kresge Arts in Detroit office at the College for Creative Studies. The College for Creative Studies (CCS) is an integrated learning community located in Detroit. A private, fully accredited college, CCS enrolls 1,400 students pursuing Master of Fine Arts and Bachelor of Fine Arts degrees. CCS also offers visual art opportunities for learners of all ages through its Community Arts Partnerships and Continuing Education programs. The Advancing the Creative Spirit campaign enables CCS to provide a world-class art and design curriculum and innovative programming. The $55 million campaign has raised more than $42 million to date, and the College is working hard to keep its promise to the community. For more information, visit www.collegeforcreativestudies.edu.
