2011 KRESGE ARTIST FELLOWS IN THE VISUAL ARTS

Panelists

Kresge Arts in Detroit is honored to present the 2011 Kresge Artist Fellows in the visual arts.  The Fellows are a talented, diverse group of artists representing many artist constituencies and creative practices within our community.  They are an astonishing group of emerging and established artists who demonstrate great promise for Detroit.

Designed to elevate the profile of artists in our community, the Kresge Artist Fellowships provide a $25,000 award, public recognition and professional practice opportunities to literary, performing and visual artists in metropolitan Detroit.  The Fellowships are generously funded by The Kresge Foundation and administered by the College for Creative Studies in Detroit.  It remains the Foundation’s unwavering belief that community life cannot flourish without the ideas, energy, and drive of individual artists.  Now in its third year, Kresge Arts in Detroit has given more than $1.3 million to local artists, which has, in turn, helped to sustain a healthy cultural life in Detroit.

The Kresge Artist Fellowships provide artists with the time and resources to explore, to experiment and to develop their work over the year-long fellowship period.  The fellowships are awarded on a competitive basis and the awardees were chosen out of hundreds of applications by a panel of distinguished local and national artists and arts professionals.  Kresge Arts in Detroit is grateful to Nick Cave, artist, faculty member and Chair of Fashion Design at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago; Mary Fortuna, artist and Exhibition Director at Paint Creek Center for the Arts; Mame Jackson, art historian and Professor Emerita at Wayne State University; Anne Pasternak, President and Creative Director of Creative Time, Inc. and Fred Wilson, artist and MacArthur Fellow for the expertise they brought to their work as panelists.

We are pleased to support these outstanding artists and celebrate their contribution to the cultural vitality of our city and region.
